The concept of loving yourself seems so vague – what does it genuinely mean to love yourself?

When I think of loving myself – I remind myself of the complexities of life and within all of that, if I remain true to myself then that to me is Self Love

If even on the darkest of days, I continue to fight and push through – that is Self Love

When I move my body; the thing that homes me daily – that is Self Love

Self Love isn’t about loving the reflection that you see in your mirror – it’s about loving what’s beneath. Loving yourself to your core and throughout.

How did I get here?

Rewind 3 years ago, feeling in a rough place with my self-esteem and self-love. I read the book “Love yourself like your life depends on it” by Kamal Ravikant ( a book I recommend to anyone I know who is struggling with self love). It opened my eyes to the power I had within my to find that self love.

So what did I do?

I started working on positive affirmations for myself and continue to use these now.

Acceptance. Accept and recognise your thoughts and emotions.

 “I accept myself”

Forgive yourself. Forgive yourself for ever hating yourself. For ever saying you were not good enough. You are.

“I forgive myself”

Learn the power of ‘NO’. Two letters can change your life. Say no. Find some boundaries. Make time for yourself. Value and love yourself enough to make the right decision for you.

“I am in touch with my needs”

Prioritise yourself. “You are the singular most important person in your world.”. Treat yourself how you would treat a friend. With love, respect and compassion.

“I am important”
